Security Tricks

  1. Get a program to enter login information for you

This is a neat trick that I discovered with Password Safe – it can enter your login information for you! Programs that can auto-type your login information, automatically copy your information to the clipboard, allow an on-screen keyboard, or otherwise get your credentials into the login box without typing can help a lot! This is one easy way to prevent keyloggers from finding your data.

  2. Install Advertisement / Script blocking services

A lot of malicious scripts end up coming from advertisement services and scripts on websites. Blocking advertisements can be easily down with browser plugins such as Ad-Block for Firefox and Chrome. However, if you do trust a website, you should enable the ads for it – many sites use this to help offset their costs.

A harsher tactic is to disable JavaScript on websites. While this can prevent unwanted scripts from loading, I personally find this too much of a clear-cut solution. JavaScript enhances the majority of the web, and people lose out on a lot by removing it all. Blacklisting untrusted sites is probably the best way to deal with this.

  3. Disable Wi-Fi on your devices (laptop/phone/etc.)

Disabling the Wi-Fi on your devices (unless you are using it) helps prevent them from transmitting data. There is a chance that, if enabled, someone could still access your device via Wi-Fi when you aren’t using it.

  4. Enable security on your Wi-Fi

This one is often overlooked. Drive around any majorly populated area and notice how many routers/connection are unsecured. Setting up even the most basic password protection will keep most off your system (and therefore not using your internet, not slowing you down, and not looking into your network)!

I hope you found some of this informative.  If you have any of our own tips or tricks, feel free to leave them in the comments below, email us, or message us on Twitter! Don’t forget to check out Part 1 and Part 2 for more information!

Getting a program that can store and enter your password for you is one of the most impotent tips. I prefer and recommend keepass over password safe but either works. Keypass has a better UI and the ability to generate random strong passwords.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that anytime you use the “auto-type” feature you are still vulnerable to key-loggers. So make sure you use the copy to clipboard option anytime you use one of these programs.

Warfronts are cross-server, not server specific….Gripes about Defiant performance appear to be due to the type of players taking the mantle of Defiant as a whole, not server-specific Defiants.

Another addon for firefox, much like adblock, that I absolutely love is noscripts. I wait for the day I see it in chrome.

A good feature that I’ve seen from Aion is the fact that once you log in with a password, to get on your toon you need a key code, helps prevent hacking. Would like to see that with Rift.

A great thing to do is have a different pass for your email and a different pass for your rift account it has never failed me
