Podcast 9 – Gamescom, Gameplay, Kalbuir and Abi

by on Aug.23, 2010, under Blog, Podcast

Before we go into anything, we’d just like to remind people of the disclaimer about Podcast info at the moment:

The game is still in Alpha at the moment – The information we get on the podcast is not set in stone. It is all still subject to change. Please keep that in mind – Thank you.

Now this week has been a hectic one. Gamescom has seen the release of a plethora of information (why yes, I do like the word plethora). We’re going to cover the info in some detail and provide links and the interview with Abi and Kalbuir, tells us all about Gamescom and the playable game setup.

But we do need to point out that the interview was done in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday am, and we hope that everything is coherent enough for people to understand. Lack of sleep can make Ari a little ditzy (er – depending on your perspective).

Now – it’s kind of hard to list where all the info came from this week, but we’re going to take a crack at it. And remember Takyn did a nice summary over at Rift News – and Kalbuir kept Rift Calculator regularly updated with a lot of information and screenshots as well.

GamesCom has been huge.  Information is flying everywhere.  Probably the best way to point you towards this information is to just point you towards the official forums.  Everything from classes to the world map has been posted with pictures.

Also MMORPG.com released the Assassin class this week.  These sneaky people use deadly poisons similar to other assassins we have seen.  Combining them with other classes should be a fresh playstyle to them.

Also Massively and IGN both released preview articles about Rift.  Massively really went into some details about the experience a new player would have when they first step foot on Telara.  The IGN preview was about the Realm of the Fae, a lower level instance that contains more than just tank and spank boss encounters.

Be sure to check out both Kal and Takyn’s sites for great write ups and a lot more information. We’re so grateful for the coverage they brought to us.

From what Kal said in his recount of playing the game:

  • Character Actions are very responsive (no noticable delay)
  • Dungeons are challenging and even low level bosses have mechanics that make you have to think of strategies and not just tank and spank
  • Dungeons are fun and worth doing
  • The Quest lines don’t hold your hand, but do give the info you need if you read them properly.
  • Questing is fun and rewarding

We hope you enjoyed the podcast
