Podcast 11: AutomaticZen and Rift Playability

by on Sep.13, 2010, under Blog, Podcast

Well we said it’d be posted on September 13th at the latest 😉 We have to give another huge thank you to: Lord Hammer from Guild UMBRA.

Today AutomaticZen joins us. He’s a forum and IRC regular who writes for Industrygamers.com and attended PAX. Not only did he give us a really nice write up of his PAX Experience on the boards -- he also allowed the podcast team to kidnap approach him and drag invite him on the show to chat to us about his experiences with Rift at the show.

He takes time to go over the following:

  • His own MMO experience and where he comes from
  • Responsiveness of gameplay
  • Character creation
  • Character individuality
  • Class system mechanics and how to equip and mix souls
  • Rift invasions and their effects on npc content etc

He was a lot of fun to talk to, and we’d love to have him back.

As of next week, we’ll be resuming our regular shows, with a bit of a twist. Every few shows will involve some varying discussions on released content, or class information. Links mentioned in the podcast, can be found underneath the cut. We hope you enjoyed it.

Note: The game is still in Alpha and everything is subject to change. Thank you

If anyone was looking for soul trees check out this youtube site, its not mine but it has a couple of videos with some souls (warlock, warden, bard, etc.)

When you guys were talking about the mixing classes, I will totally make a Shaman/Warden mix with HoT heals and massive melee dps with the Shaman.

    • Arithion

Oooo yes, I should have thought to link to the wiki. And you’re so right – I’ve looked at the shaman a bit and could see a great melee healer in there if you mix it up with the Warden.

So much potential. I just keep having to remind myself that not all is finalized and some of, if not all of, these soul trees could have changed by the time we get a chance at playing the game.

*crosses fingers* Hope they still have a combo that cool though!

    yes the podcast sounds great.
    thank you for it.
rift will be a very good mmorpg.

Excellent job as usual. It was nice hearing from Zen, being a writer for a website he has a lot of experience with all the games out there atm. His interest in Rift still really says a lot about the game. Keep up the good work ladies. You made my monday :-)

Awesome podcast, still some audio issues. I’m not sure if it’s just me with my bluetooth headset, but the talking seems quiet again: I have to press my headphones against my ears to be able to understand it at max volume. Then the outro comes, which seems to be at a more decent volume.

So, just a small request, but can you normalize the volume of the podcast a bit more? :) Thanks!

Glad you liked the podcast. Still some audio issues? This has been the first time in a while we had some :( There was a lot of interference on the interview line and no time to re-record. So we fixed it as best we could which left just Desi and I a little muffled in the interview – not Zen.
Trust me, we do our best every week to keep the audio as balanced as possible, but my equipment isn’t anywhere near professional grade so there’s only so much I can do.

We’ll continue to put out the best audio we can, and try to make sure we get as little interference as possible in the future :) Hope we can be successful in this hehe
